Principal Structural / Civil Engineer – Kampala – Ministry of Works and Transport

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing the necessary technical, managerial and administrative guidance and support to the Department of Public Structures and Government in general in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering and related matters;
Deputizing the Assistant Commissioner, Civil/Structural Engineering.
The jobholder will be producing structural engineering designs for Government buildings construction projects that are not being handled by consultants;
Conducting structural integrity assessment public structures, investigate building construction related accidents and preparing technical assessment reports to ensure safety.
In charge of checking and verify civil/structural engineering designs and technical reports on Government building construction projects prepared by consultants;
In charge of checking and certifying consultants’ fee notes, contractors’ payment certificates and project final accounts on Government building construction projects;
Supervising and monitoring construction works on Government building construction projects undertaken by contractors;
Providing technical advice on structural/civil engineering matters to other Government departments, parastatals, non-governmental organizations and the general public;
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should be Ugandans holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management or any related field from a recognized University/Institution.
The applicant should be registered with the Engineers Professional Institution and Uganda Engineers Registration Board (UERB);
A minimum of six (6) years’ relevant working experience dealing with civil/structural engineering design and construction supervision, three (3) of which must have been served at the level of a Senior Engineer in Government or equivalent level of experience from a reputable Organization, or its equivalent;
Age: Above 28 years

Hand written applications are also acceptable.

Application forms should bear the title of the post followed by the Reference Number specified against the vacancy. The appropriate Advert Title e.g. “PSC External Advert. No. 1/2016” should be indicated in capital letters on the top of each first page of the Public Service Form No. 3 (2008). Applicants should attach three sets of photocopies of their certificates and testimonials. Applicants subsequently shortlisted for oral interviews shall be required to present certified copies and originals of their academic transcripts and certificates at the time of sitting the Oral Interviews and their names will be shown on the PSC website and on the PSC noticeboard.
