Stores Officer – Mengo Hospital

Mengo Hospital was founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics, dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides critical training and education to health professionals through its various programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.

Job Summary: The Stores Officer will primarily ensure that sufficient and viable medicines are optimally stored and distributed for use at all times at the main pharmacy store.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent also maintains the store as per the standard medicines store conditions of temperature, humidity and cleanliness.
Prepare stock replenishment requests (bimonthly) for medicines that have reached the re-order levels after considering stock levels in other stock holding areas.
Receive supplies of main hospital and ensure distribution of medicines to the other pharmacies.
Keenly verify stock with user departments upon delivery to ensure that delivered stock matches user department’s specifications
Maintain an up to date record of stock/ Stock Inventory and control
The Stores Officer will also ensure that security control measures are followed to safeguard stock
Prepare and submit Stores Status Reports
Conduct periodical stock taking
Carry out budgeting for stores requirements
Work closely with the Pharmacist to ensure that short expiry medicines are duly utilized by prescribers.
Ensure that the relevant information is captured into clinic master.

Serialize and verify purchase orders, stores request forms and goods received notes.
Maintain an up to date supplier price lists file.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Stores Officer job opportunity should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Stores Management, Business Administration, Logistics or a related qualification from a recognized institution of higher learning
Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in software packages e.g. clinic master
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and within a team.
Ability to manage competing tasks, prioritize and produce high level output consistently
Excellent reporting writing skills and knowledge of records management
Highly proactive with team orientation
