Maintenance Technician – Kampala – Uganda National Roads Authority

About UNRA:
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.

Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician will offer support in the execution of routine and periodic maintenance activities for roads and bridges under the station for both Contracts and Force Account. This will involve assisting in performing regular inspection of maintenance works including inspecting works on a daily basis; keeping a daily record of instructions issued, coordinating with an independent testing lab any materials testing required and verifying quantities for payment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Take part in the implementation of Force Account activities in line with the station approved budget;
Actively participate in the supervision of routine and periodic maintenance of roads and bridges in accordance with standards, specifications and best practice;
Supervise Manual routine maintenance (LBCs);
Prepare and verify payments for lab tests carried out.
Prepare and submit reports of maintenance works carried out;
Coordinate lab materials testing as required;
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Inspector of Works

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the UNRA Maintenance Technician job vacancy should hold an Ordinary Diploma in Civil Engineering or related field;
At least two years’ experience in maintenance operations for roads and bridges.
High level of integrity;
Proven track record of outstanding performance;
Computer literacy skills
Ability to work as part of a team;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal, particularly staff/management relation skills
Ability to deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks
