Medical Records Clerk – Benedictine Eye Hospital

Benedictine Eye Hospital (BEH) is a Specialised Private Not-For-Profit Hospital of the Benedictine Fathers of Uganda offering high quality Eye Care Services and Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities.

Job Summary: The Medical Records Clerk will be tasked with entering new patient records and retrieve existing ones by collecting appropriate record folders and contents, assigning and recording new numbers, inputting and recording locations to computer to facilitate the smooth running of the Hospital environment and support delivery of excellent patient care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Register patients according to established protocols and available systems.
Accurately capture and enter patient’s details in the hospital system and generate reports.
Support patients to complete all necessary forms and documentation including medical insurance.
Ensure patient information is accurate including billing information.
Retrieves medical records by following .chart-out procedures; documenting reasons charts cannot be retrieved for statistical and follow-up purposes.
Inform patients of medical office procedures and policy
Maintains continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
Update, maintain and manage patient records.
Move patients through appointments as scheduled.
Report statistics as required.
Schedule hospital admissions, tests, scans and outside appointments for patients.
Quickly respond and comply to requests for information.
Complete other clerical duties as assigned.
The jobholder will also maintain stock of forms and office supplies.
Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicants for the Medical Records Clerk job placement should hold a Diploma in medical records management and librarianship.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, procedures and diagnosis.
Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications.
Working knowledge of general administrative and clerical procedures
Working knowledge of healthcare systems
Be creative, innovative and sensitive to quality.
Excellent command of the English language (both spoken and written) and must be multilingual.
Time management skills
Excellent communication skills.

Good planning and organizational skills

Age: 24-30 years
