The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach. The Ugandan Academy for Health Innovation and Impact (‘The Academy’) is one of the programs housed within the IDI. The Academy was formed after an MOU between several partners including Uganda Ministry of Health, IDI, Janssen, the pharmaceutical companies of Johnson and Johnson, and the Johnson and Johnson Corporate Citizenship Trust in 2015. The Academy’s mission is to urgently and demonstrably improve health outcomes for people living with or being affected by HIV and TB through a range of carefully focused interventions combining applied relevant research resulting in improved national policy/guidelines, and associated training and systematic ongoing support. The Academy will manage funding for projects in clinical development, operational research and capacity building. Primary focus will be HIV/TB, with the potential to expand to maternal and child health.

Job Summary: The Study Coordinator/ Team lead -Call for Life project will be accountable for project coordination and supervision of project CALL FOR LIFE study activities to ensure high quality implementation and adherence to study timelines and quality assurance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Work in close collaboration with all the stakeholders, coordinate and supervise study activities to ensure high quality implementation and adherence to study protocol and timelines.
Provide technical oversight and support to all the team members of the CALL FOR LIFE project team
Provide day to day oversight and management of project CALL FOR LIFE and ensure that Project CALL FOR LIFE standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed during study implementation.
Work closely with the IS team and other stakeholders to ensure the integration with ICEA and the roll out of the CALL FOR LIFE and Call for Life tools
Actively participate in training study staff, provide continued on job training, mentoring and skills transfer or updates to all staff
Keenly monitor study procedures to ensure they are in time with the study protocol, as well as reporting any adverse study events
Regularly monitor study budget and expenses and ensure proper and efficient utilization and management of resources issued for purposes of project CALL FOR LIFE.
Keenly review preliminary findings on a regular basis and provide regular updates to the Principal Investigators including the Head of the IDI PCT Programme.
Maintain regular link, appropriate communication channels and feedback between the study partners (IDI, districts, MoH, Janssen) in line with the laid down procedures
Ensure timely production and submission of relevant activity and other reports to relevant authorities.
Manage the screening and enrolment of potential participants into the CALL FOR LIFE study.
Maintenance of the CALL FOR LIFE study files, and to ensure that all source documents are maintained.
Oversee the correct completion of all CRFs and other documentation relating to the CALL FOR LIFE study.
Manage the development of “health tips” – short health information messages to be used within the CALL FOR LIFE system
Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold a medical degree (MBChB, MD or equivalent) or a master’s degree in public health or a BSc Nursing
Research experience, as well as possession of Good Clinical Practices training is essential.
A minimum of two years of professional experience in implementation of HIV/ AIDS care and treatment programs in hospital /district settings or HIV/ AIDS/TB or research.
Demonstrated clinical experience in the management of antiretroviral therapy is desirable
Knowledge and skills in designing, planning, implementing and monitoring of HIV/AIDS care and treatment research programs
Excellent verbal communication and writing skills with the ability to work in a team. Ability to communicate to staff and other partners in a courteous and professional manner
Broad knowledge and understanding of data management systems and good computer skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and use judgment and initiative in the course of executing responsibilities
Ability to make decisions in line with established policies and procedures
Demonstrated organizational skills
Good networking, public relations and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to support and supervise health care providers
Experience in new technologies for health (mhealth, ehealth)
