Physiotherapist – Gulu – African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims

About US:
The African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) is a Non- Governmental organisation in Uganda since 1993 whose mandate is to provide physical and psychological treatment and rehabilitation including legal advice to survivors of torture as well as to advocate against torture.

Job Summary: The Physiotherapist will support the Branch Officer through the provision of ensure appropriate physiotherapy services to the survivors of torture at the ACTV-Gulu medical centre and through outreaches.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of torture survivors with a wide variety of physical and emotional needs.
Aid the formulation and delivery of quality physiotherapy treatment to torture survivors.
Measure and prescribe appropriate orthopedic appliances for torture survivors.
Responsible for the provision of Rehabilitative counseling to torture survivors
Ensure the appropriate equipping of the centre with essential physiotherapy equipment and materials. This will also involve managing and maintaining the equipment and materials.
Work closely with any other professionals (psychologists, social workers) in the development of peer-to-peer support groups.
Ensure timely referral of torture survivors for special investigations and treatment
Participate in advocacy initiatives against torture
The incumbent will participate and contribute to proposal writing and other ACTV Fundraising Initiatives
Ensure the production of reports and that any lessons learnt can be documented both for internal use and for possible publication
Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Diploma in Physiotherapy from an accredited institution or school of physiotherapy
At least three years’ experience preferably in a non-governmental organization.
Possession of a current practicing certificate from Allied Health Professionals.
Ability to think creatively and solve challenges
The incumbent must possess excellent networking and liaison skills
Possession of basic IT skills
Excellent organisational skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary team
Ability to work under difficult circumstances
Excellent writing and representational skills
Personal Competencies: Superior organizational skills and ability to multi-task on a constant basis, Ability to work under pressure meeting deadlines in a fast paced fluid environment, Creative and flexible with good problem solving skills, Dynamic, proactive self-starter able to work independently and Effective cross-cultural communication skills
